Why iFiddle Magazine

First off, the best fiddlers on the planet are in iFiddle Magazine. That’s not an overstatement. It’s true I’ve interviewed many world class fiddlers since I started in October 2013 and continue to do so. One reason is, I wanted to know how these masters play. What kind of practice, their philosophy about music and more importantly, life.

Although I’m not as talented and blessed with the musical prowess of these great fiddlers, it’s interesting to talk with them. I usually ask, “Is there a difference between talent and skill?” Some of the answers will make one think.

The readers, like me, gain the great benefit of listening to these musicians. As Bruce Molsky or Darol Anger talk about their life and times, we all get a sense of joy and wonderment. We get insight from their experiences and this inspires us to become better musicians ourselves. So that’s why I started iFiddle Magazine.

It wasn’t easy at first. I didn’t have a team of writers and graphic artist’s. It was just me. This may show you if you have determination and a dream, you can do anything.

Last November, on the advice of legendary Irish fiddler, Tom Morley, I went up from Texas to Massachusetts to David Reiner’s Fiddle Hell. There I met and talked with some of these great master’s in person. Tom Morley, Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Ed Pearlman, Jason Anick and many others. The epiphany I had was that there is something unique about musicians of this caliber. There is some kind of magical atmosphere that surrounds some of these musicians, not all, but some. Almost an aura you could sense.

I came away with a deeper appreciation of music, but more importantly, how music and musicians and artists are transforming the world for the better.

There’s an old Chinese saying, or actually curse, “May you live in interesting times”, and it is relevant for the times we live in. With all the political turmoil, hate, drama and misunderstanding, I think there is an oasis provided by these world class musicians that are on another plane from us mere mortal beings. In these troubled times, I think music may be that oasis. As my friend and great fiddler, Vi Wickam says, “keep calm and fiddle on”.

iFiddle will continue to bring you, the best fiddlers and musicians in the world. Thank you for subscribing.
